So between the Olympics (USA!) and the message I had to post on FB this week…I’ve shed so many more than my share of tears…
SO…this is a message I never thought I’d be posting, but we’re looking for a loving home for our dog, Marley. He’s almost four years old, 60-ish lbs, a purebred, tri-color, English Springer Spaniel. He’s AKC certified, neutered, and microchipped, with all of his shots current. He’s also registered in West Allis.
Marley is high-energy, especially during the first five-ish minutes of company arriving, and when he’s freed of his crate (he is crate-trained though!), but he’s finally settling into his adulthood and mellowing out some (he spends LOTS of his day and night, napping). He loves to swim, play fetch, go for walks (he’s a WONDERFUL leash-walker!), and socializes well with other dogs (everyone at his old doggy daycare loved him). He knows his basic commands (sit, heel, down, stay, front, go to bed), and even several novelty tricks. Since nobody’s perfect, I’ll also disclose that he’s a wicked counter-surfer (even though he’s not fed table food), he’s never met a stuffed animal he didn’t want to devour, and he loves to eat garbage if he has the opportunity (we don’t have many problems with these things as we just keep them away from him) (he also doesn’t chew or damage anything else in the house).
We love Marley SO MUCH, but he’s been challenging me (even though I’m his favorite!), occasionally, (the vet said it’s probably because he’s jealous of the time I spend with the boys) and while he’s wonderful with the boys, I’m just not willing to risk this weird aggression thing around them. I am confident that he will continue to be a wonderful dog for someone lucky (preferably without young kids), and it breaks my heart that it won’t be with our family.
Please let me or P know if you’re interested in taking Marley in, if you know anyone who is, or if you have any questions.
Thank You.
There is so much my message doesn’t say though.
It doesn’t say anything about how, P was working in Chicago, while I was pregnant and coming home from work frustrated, and with an achy back, and just so tired, Marley would snuggle with me on the couch while I napped. I remember telling my mom how relaxed he made me feel, just laying there, petting him, and thinking about the babies growing and tumbling around with each other in my tummy. Marley was so protective of me, leaving my side only to check out a suspicious (to him, at least) car door closing. He even risked his life (to him, at least) to get between me and the vacuum cleaner (his mortal enemy) once. It doesn’t say that he always picks my feet to lay on/keep warm when we let him sleep in our bed, but that he, still/always my protector, has to be facing the door, ever at the ready to spring into action.
On Thursday, we’re interviewing a couple who is very excited about possibly being Marley’s (lucky) new family…and that’s all I have to say about that.
(Commence more crying - thanks a lot, Marley, and the US women’s gymnastic team and their GOLD!)
